One of the key things that drew me to learn about, and later decide to teach breathwork was the current and ever-expanding body of research about the far reaching and deep influence our respiratory system has on our physiology and our psychology.
Each new article I read, video I watched, paper I poured over and course I completed continued to fascinate me and to this day continues to cause me to marvel at how incredible the human body is.
There’s a lot of information out there, so I thought I’d compile some of my top breathwork content as a starting point for those looking to dive in.
NB: I’ve also compiled my favourite Wim Hof Method specific content.
Wim Hof Method - the technique that started it all for me!
The Oxygen Advantage - Patrick McKeown’s training methodology focused on nasal breathing & breath hold training
XPT - Big wave surfer Laird Hamilton’s performance lifestyle focused on human adaptability
Shift/Adapt - Human performance specialist Brian Mackenzie’s programming, coaching & educational platform
The Health & Human Performance Foundation - an educational organisation focused on scientific understanding of breathing practices
The Distance Project - Endurance athlete, coach and all-round breathing gun (my own opinion) David Bidler
Holotropic Breathwork - Psychiatrist & Transpersonal Psychology pioneer Stanislav Grof’s technique to access non-ordinary states of consciousness
Dan Brule - pioneer and creator of the 'spiritual breathwork' movement
Kasper van der Meulen 'The Breathwork Biohacker - breathwork specialist and bestselling author
Jesse Coomer (formerly Midwestern Method) - professional breathworker, YouTuber and author
Richie Bostock 'The Breath Guy' - Breathwork coach, author and speaker and leading figure and evangelist for Breathwork
Niraj Naik a.k.a. The Renegade Pharmacist - Creator of Soma Breath and prolific musician
Breathe by James Nestor (can not recommend this highly enough)
Exhale by Richie Bostock 'The Breath Guy' (fantastic for coaches)
