One of the key things that drew me to learn about, and later decide to teach breathwork was the current and ever-expanding body of research about the far reaching and deep influence our respiratory system has on our physiology and our psychology.

Each new article I read, video I watched, paper I poured over and course I completed fascinated me and to this day continues to cause me to marvel at how incredible the human body is.

There’s a lot of information out there, so I thought I’d compile some of my top breathwork educators, content, apps & trainings as a starting point for those looking to dive in.

Books

Apps

  • Simple apps that lets you set your breathing tempo. These are what I share with my coaching clients. Breathe+ Apple | Breathe Android | Breathe Easy Android

  • Breathe: Very granular breath cycle settings which is great for finding your sweet-spot breathing tempo. Apple | Android

  • The Breathing App: This was a recommendation as it’s very easy to get started with. Just download and start breathing. Apple | Android

  • The Oxygen Advantage: Packed with exercises for all sorts of applications. As a friend said, a gift to breathing community. Apple | Android

  • Wim Hof Method: Obviously this app only offers one modality, but it is a great app for doing just that, with plenty of customisation. Apple | Android

  • Insight Timer: Big, broad, popular app for not only breathwork, but also meditation etc.. Apple | Android

  • The Breath Source: This one is focused on guided breathwork sessions from some of the world's best breathworkers. Apple | Android

Organisations

  • Wim Hof Method - the technique that started it all for me!

  • The Oxygen Advantage - Patrick McKeown’s training methodology focused on nasal breathing & breath hold training

  • Buteyko Method - A range of breathing exercises developed in the 1950's designed to improve an individual’s health

  • The Health & Human Performance Foundation - an not-for-profit educational organisation focused on the scientific understanding of breathing practices

TRAINING

I've chosen to recommend training that is not focused on a single modality (with one exception), as not every technique is suitable for everyone, where they may currently be at.

  • School of Breath Science - Offering cutting-edge science-first education. Great for coaches

  • Breathwork Masterclass - Incredible depth and breadth, all taught simply, ethically and practically

  • Language of Breath Collective - US-based training, from a leading breathwork voice

  • Flow Institute Australia - Australian-based comprehensive training, incorporating other techniques like somatic work, yoga & meditation.

  • Rhythm of Breath - Australian-based training, with great breadth and depth, and a genuine trauma-informed foundation

  • Biodynamic Breathwork - Single modality training, taking a body-focused approach

  • Breath Body Therapy - In-depth training, great for those working in clinical settings

(Disclosure, I'm not a big YouTube person, so I'm light-on for video recommendations!)
